6 Alternatives to Notre-Dame-de-Paris

Have you been planning a visit to Paris for a long time and looking forward to visiting the iconic Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral? If so, you are then likely to have be very disappointed with the news of the fire last April. But don’t despair! Following are 6 Alternatives to Notre-Dame-de-Paris Cathedral that are well worth a visit.

President Emmanuel Macron has promised to renovate the cathedral before the olympics in 2024. There is currently ongoing construction and entry to the Cathedral is closed post the fire. Even with all the damage, it is still worth passing by for the spectacular architecture. You can still see the wondrous exterior from afar (minus the roof and spire of course).

Try these worthy alternatives in Paris…

Église Saint-Eustache
Basilique Saint-Denis
Église Saint-Sulpice
L’église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine
Église Saint-Étienne-du-Mont
La Sainte-Chapelle

Other Cathedrals…

In other regions of France, you can find similarly styles alternatives to Notre-Dame-de-Paris by visiting the Laon Cathedral and the Noyon Cathedral.

But there are many other gems out there – and even the tiniest most humble chapel can make for a fascinating visit…

There is even an entire compilation of chapels in Provence created by Wulfran Barthélémy (last updated in 2017) if you are in the area. Some day I will make my way to each and every one on the list!!!
