Paris♥…the city of Love.

Paris… The City of Love . The undeniable “Love Capital” of the World…

Paris, it’s the first place one thinks of when contemplating the ideal romantic getaway. Paris steeps in romance. The atmosphere is simply contagious…and the opportunities for romance entirely endless. As Audrey Hepburn (in character as Sabrina) has been well-known to have said…

“Paris is always a good idea”. -Audrey Hepburn

If you have ever visited Paris you surely must have seen first-hand the many couples lounging side-by-side on manicured park lawns, strolling the Seine holding hands, or gazing into one another’s eyes over a romantic candlelit dinner. It may have left you wistful…

What I offer you today is my insiders version of the “The Perfect Romantic Parisian Day” (Valentine’s or any other day) for you to woo you loved one. Just follow along… Romance guaranteed!

Imagine yourself…

A red rose in hand, you meet the object of your obsessions on the glorious Pont Bir Hakeim  – the same bridge seen in the movie “Inception” with Leonardo Di Caprio and Ellen Page and the location of many a wedding portrait.  You arrive at sunrise before anyone else has begun to stir. The views of the Seine and the Eiffel Tower are breathtaking, as is your soul mate. Paris is just for the two of you right now.  The perfect way to start your perfect romantic day…

Forget the “love locks“, instead toss your red rose petals high into the wind and watch them as they flutter into the drifting water, a wish on each petal.  You continue on, strolling the banks of the Seine River hand in hand, whispering sweet nothings to each other while the wind playfully whips your hair. How sweet it is…

“Even the pigeons are dancing, kissing, going in circles. Paris is the city of love, even for the birds.” -Samantha Schutz

As Paris finally begins to awaken, meander across the Pont Alexandre III to the Place de la Concorde, continuing through to the still deserted Jardin des Tuilleries. The slumbering statues watch you  enviously as you pass the empty garden chairs littering the still quiet park.

The Louvre is imposing as you stop to admire the mighty glass pyramid tantalizing in its early morning reflections.  From time to time you pull out your camera for a quick entwined selfie commemorating your love for all of prosperity.  How wonderful to be able to share such moments with your soul mate.

Beyond along the Seine reside the quaint green “Bouquinistes” with their collections of antique books and posters. You leisurely stroll destractedly exploring the overflowing stands.  Without letting go of each other even for just a second, cross over to Île Saint-Louis to explore the tiny streets and marvel at the architecture and history. It is as if time had entirely skipped this place…

“Respirer Paris, cela conserve l’âme…”  -Victor Hugo

France November 2010 169

The Cathedral Notre Dame soon appears majestically before you.  You are just a little too distracted with each other to pay much attention.  Your stomachs grumble, it’s time for a pause…  Pass the Fontaine Saint-Michel admiring the baroque architecture, and stop at a café in the Quartier Latin for a “petit déjeuner”.  You watch the hurried the passersby and laugh at their lack of insight – why do they not slow down as you have to be with their own one and only? Bite into your crispy croissant and quietly sip your steaming espresso all in impeccable company.

Pleasantly satiated, embrace your loved one lightly on the lips enjoying the lingering coffee flavors. Onward…

Exploring the serpentine streets of the Quartier Latin, the most bohemian of all the quartiers, you stop to listen to the magnificent street musician playing for what seems to be only the two of you.  You pop in and out of the tiny boutiques and art galleries hidden in the many crooked streets with no real agenda in mind.  Here you can still sense the echos of the likes of Camus, Sartre and Beckett.

“A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of Life.” -Thomas Jefferson

Tiring a bit after your promenade grab a bottle of red wine, a baguette, some cheese and sweet grapes for an impromptu but delicious picnic at the Jardin du Luxembourg. Now it’s your turn to be that lounging couple on the manicured park lawn, stretched out side by side. The sun warms your faces as you gaze into each other’s eyes. Who needs food when you have each other?

After a well deserved nap, the Medecis Fountain affords you yet another romantic selfie picture opportunity. Once home again you’ll gather the many photos of the two of you and plaster them everywhere for everyone can see for themselves – YOU are in LOVE.  Never has a couple been so perfect for each other…

“The last time I saw Paris, her heart was warm and joyful, I heard the laughter of her heart in every street café.” -Oscar Hammerstein II

Depart the gardens and make your way to the incredibly interesting Cluny Museum with its amazing collection of medieval artifacts including the “Lady and the Unicorn” tapestry.  Visit if you are so inclined, or just admire the wonderful architecture before hopping on the metro and getting off in the Montmatre district at the Place des Abbesses.  Find your way to the “Mur des Je t’aimes”, the “I love you wall”, and declare your love for each other in the very same spot lovers have been declaring their own love since the year 2000 in 250 different languages.

You could now visit the Musée de la Vie Romantique in the Pigalle distritct, as that would be in keeping with today’s theme. Instead, choose to forgo the museum and instead begin to climb the steep steps that lead up to the Sacré Coeur.

“Though I often looked for one, I finally had to admit that there could be no cure for Paris.” -Paula McClain

Perfect Parisian Romantic Day

Sitting so very closely together, you enjoy the eclectic mix of street artists that have settled on the top of the steps.  The sun begins to set…what a heavenly view! It is as if there were only just the two of you, when in reality thriving crowds surround you.  As the last ray of sunlight sets and your kisses subside, you consider that perhaps after all you cannot survive on love alone…

 “We’ll always have Paris.”  -Casablanca

A romantic candlelit dinner is just the right thing for the two of you.  Under the sparkling chandelier, you cozy up together and toast your love in front of a roaring fireplace.  The discreet staff tops off your glasses as you drink each other in.  Is it possible to actually melt while gazing in each other’s eyes?

The Perfect Parisian Valentine's Day

Leaving the restaurant, your chauffeur awaits you outside. He tilts his perky beret as he opens the door of his classic convertible 2CV into which the two of you engulf yourselves. It’s time to enjoy the sights of Paris by Night! You whiz by all the main monuments, splendid dressed in their evening bling. As you near the Eiffel Tower, you ask the chauffeur to pull over.

You’ve come full circle. Quickly you step out together just as the lights begin to twinkle like stars. You kiss…as if drowning into each other.

Wanting to make this memorable evening last as long as is possible, you tuck into a jazz bar for a little music and night life. The cozy environment of the stone arched cave matches the cozy feelings you have for each other. Synchronized to each other, you sway to the music enjoying the tempo and each others company until your sleepy eyelids begin to flutter.

The Perfect Parisian Valentine's Day What an epic evening you think as you retire to your love nest, a snug hotel in the Marais District with views of the Paris rooftops. A chocolate flower bouquet and chilled champagne await you. Time stands still as your magical evening blends into the morning sunrise…

“For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart. It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.” – Judy Garland

Sigh!  So perfect you think as you unpack back at home. Your loved one has thoughtfully procured two sparkling Baccarat Champagne flutes as a souvenir of your love in Paris.  You found them hidden in your suitcase as you removed your things, with a simple little note… “I will always remember Paris”.

To be continued…♥♥♥

What a great day in Paris, as full as it can be, and totally exhausting, but ever so romantic. You’ve chosen some great quotes and your photos are beautiful. I especially love the one of the seagulls on the Seine and the evening romantic dinner over looking the sparkling Eiffel Tower. Is that taken in a private apartment or a hotel/restaurant? Thanks for linking up to #AllAboutFrance, sorry I missed you in Nice last week.

If your budget affords it, the romantic candlelight dinner is at the Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris – as recommended by http://www.homedit.com in their “top 10 most expensive and luxurious hotels in paris” article. Sorry the invite was so last minute – I’ll try to ping the group a little earlier next time so we can actually plan something!

I’m French-American, so the topic of the referendum isn’t as troubling for me. There has always been a difficult relationship between the British and the French, but the French are also very welcoming once they get to know you. No one in my circles are bath mouthing the Brits because of this issue – I wouldn’t worry too much. BTW, I agree with Audrey > Paris is ALWAYS a good idea! Find time to get away with hubby 🙂
